Farol Ponta do Arnel in Nordeste is a historic and picturesque landmark located on the rugged coast of Sao Miguel, the largest island in the Azores archipelago of Portugal. Built in 1876, the lighthouse stands at the edge of a dramatic cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, providing a vital beacon for ships navigating the treacherous waters of this remote and beautiful region. The lighthouse is accessible by a twisty road that at times reaches a downward grade of up to 35% and offers stunning panoramic views of the ocean and the small harbor below. With its striking white tower and red dome, the Arnel Lighthouse is a beloved symbol of the island's maritime heritage and is considered one of the most important lighthouses in the Azores.
